Life is a Beach

It's been a while since I've posted a new entry here, but I have a good excuse for not being so forthcoming with my writing...the weather here is absolutely gorgeous!

Apart from work, I've been out and about enjoying the wonderful weather we've been having on the Island recently.

This past weekend I did something I've been meaning to do since I got here; go to the beach. It's one thing Islanders talk about all the time, the number of great beaches here and how close and easy they are to get to.

Well, with the temperature hitting 30 degrees this Saturday, I packed up my beach towel and hit the road. Over the last few months I've been asking locals where the best beaches are. The ones that haven't been overrun by tourists (there aren't too many left).

I made my way up to one such place which by a campground. I was welcomed with open arms by the owner and staff who recognized me as the guy from TV. As I made my way to the beach I ran into some folks who work for CBC in Moncton, whom I had met once and chatted with on the phone every now and then. They were there camping and before I knew it, I had joined their little beach party.

I wish I had my camera with me that afternoon, but unfortunately the batteries were recharging. The water was freezing, but the sand was warm, the sun was hot and the scenery was amazing.

The water was pretty calm which meant the soothing sound of waves lapping against the shore was somewhat muted.

But regardless, as I lay on the beach working on my tan, hanging out with my francophone colleagues, I thought, this almost makes up for all those cold, windy, wintery days on the Island. The fact that I was laying on a beach that was no more than 25 minutes from where I lived (and there are more even closer) in such a beautiful setting was so relaxing. I could see now, why so many people flock here in the summer.

But if laying on the beach wasn't cool enough, one of the people I was with went out and bought some fresh oysters. That was the icing on the cake. Shucking fresh oysters, with a nice cold beer, while overlooking the sand dunes and the cool water, it was just awesome.

Summer is pretty cool here, I could get used to this. The only question is, to you the reader, when will you be joining me?
